Receiving two awards in one day can be emotional, and gratifying.

Unless of course, you're receiving something like a Nickelodeon's Kids Choice award. Or, a "Most Likely to be Murdered" award at your high school graduation. OR, getting slimed after receiving a Nickelodeon's Kids Choice award at the Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards.

But today, in receiving a Dean's List Award and the Presidential Scholarship Award from Sunway ADTP/WMU, it brought a deep sense of satisfaction and justification.

All the hard work over the past one and a half years - throughout the five semesters - was evident.

The clear message of goodbye and achievement hit me, when i received my Certificate of Completion from Sunway. By no means was it a grand, or extensive, or spectacular event, but it needn't be. I had shone. I had set high targets, and hit them. And it felt amazing.

I probably had somewhat unrealistic expectations that MU were going to trash M'sia since this was their first match since the Champions League final, and in alien conditions as well! Okay, so maybe I'm just making excuses..

I found it funny that the national team came out in tracksuits in the sweltering heat while MU were sensible enough to just wear what was required.

A while after the restart, there were some substitutions, notably the goalkeeper switch of Van der Sar to Foster. Things were going smoothly, until Foster was caught napping, completely mis-kicking from a routine backpass...

AMRI YAHYAH (YAHYAH!) pounced to take the ball from Foster's feet, round his flailing arms, and tap into the net!

This time, i was cheering my heart out! (YAHYAH MALAYSIA!)

A sense of awkwardness came over me as the scores stood tied. Is this for real?

New boy Michael Owen, Anfield goldenboy, Galactico reject, and Toon flop, made his debut, coming on for Rooney.

With just 8 minutes to go, there was a buzz of activity in the Malaysian box. Giggs' shot was saved by the on-rushing keeper, but the ball rebounded out, falling kindly around Owen. His predatorial instincts kicked in as he pounced on a loose ball on the outside of the box...

Tis the season when true holidays and days of celebration begin to slow; when many years ago the people at Hallmark decided to charge things up by creating additional annual events; events that could and would not be missed by anyone; true innovators in a quest to boost turnover for themselves and the world over!

And now, boys and girls, many years later, we have Mother's and Father's Day!

This year's Mother's Day brought out my once unused poetic/baking skills to conjure up another heartfelt poem (last one being a few days ago for Dad) and a yummy batch of brownies! They say parents will love anything you give them. WRONG.

Haha, nah joking. My mom loved it. I think. Love you mom! :D

So the highlight of the day was a potluck dinner at my Uncle's place where all my relatives (Dad's side) came to celebrate all the mothers known/available to us!

As such, sorry mammas, but focus shifts to the food at any potluck :P

The other night I was bumming around with some friends after dinner.

When someone pulled out their Zippo (a lighter), and another did the same.

And another.

Okay. So suddenly, all these people started doing 'lighter tricks' and i wanted to learn!

I thought it'd be a useful tool.. solely for showing off. Not that I would need a fancy way to light my own cigarette. Not that I smoke. Seriously.

My body is a temple. Most of the time.

These people literally walk, run, and sleep with a lighter no more than 5 feet away from them at all times, so I was way out of my league...

BUT can they do this??!!!

Was too salty for my liking! Had the chef cook us up another pizza.

Had this as grandma can't take beef, and surely can't be too salty. Good change!

The Amazing G-Race 2009!

Rewind a few months and a year back. It is morning, I am panicking because two members suddenly bail.

Shit.

Urgent and panic calling ensued, with reinforcements arriving in the most unlikeliest of forms - two chronic smokers who are almost perpetually late to class.

That was last year's edition of Sunway University College's (SYUC) Amazing G-Race.

We got 4th.

Good enough?

No, not really.

Fast forward to 25/4/2009.

The timing this year was perfect, the Saturday just after our Finals.

The team this year was chosen, not grabbed from bed.

Together Me, Josh, Omer, and Kok Seong formed "We Are Not Americans But We're Going There"! (kinda catchy right? :P)

Fancy our chances? Definitely.

The team with the fastest time, including bonuses and penalties would be declared the winner!

Again, the starting and ending point was SYUC.

There would be five intervals, each colour coded, where five to six teams would be flagged off each time, with 5 minutes separating each.

We were pooled in the Green interval, which was third.

Was basically tons of running around Bandar Sunway, completing miscellaneous tasks that challenged us, both physically and mentally! Props to Omer and his long long legs! :P

Stupid sinus killed my stamina early on. How, oh how do i get rid of thee in the morning!

At one point during the Sunway Pyramid length of the race...

We had to watch a CK advert twice, and with lyrics in hand, perform the same ad with as much energy and spunk as possible :)

Josh was the lead, the rest of us were backup singers.

And yes, we keep time with one free hand.

You know how at the end of many product ads there's this deep voice resonating saying out the product's tagline. I was that too. And an awful backup singer.

Later on, we arrived at Rock Cafe (aka Medan) where we received instructions to go to the padang. We sensed the end was near!

There, we were faced with a roadblock, a task that only one member can perform. Choose to stick your hand into a box of either i) grasshoppers, ii) sludge, or iii) mud mix and find the pingpong ball with your coloured interval! I bravely took up the challenge, and into the grasshoppers we go!

After that we raced back to the cafeteria. This was the end, we knew it! But first, we had to devour a whole plate of extremely dry biscuits. Josh, was starving by now. Be my guest, hah! A hungry person does not think straight. Half-way through the plate he was a little sick, because it was so dry, and no water is allowed during this process!

PITSTOP! 2nd team to arrive! Where the hell did those other guys come from?

First thoughts, "Damn, they look like the only exercise they've been getting is from DOTA, and shouts of "DABLE KILL, I KILL YOU!"

We were in limbo. How would we place?!

The prizes that awaited the top 5 teams!

My extended family, is huge. Thing is, they mostly speak Chinese - Hokkien, Canto, Mandarin, you name it. Another thing is, my inability to converse similarly. However, over the years I have mastered the art of listening, and for the most part understanding their banter and chatter in my unacquired mother tongue; so familiar yet foreign. Therein lies the source of my moniker as a 'banana.' That is, "white on the inside, yellow on the outside!"

Okay, so there comes these holidays.

3 months.

And I'm thinking.

First lesson dealt with learning basic vocabulary encompassing life - numbers, days of the week, family, name, and such. Am simultaneously learning how to write in Mandarin, so brain overload occured in just over an hour!

You can't miss nor resist the brightly colored neon-lights fronting the store, the simple yet boldly endearing sign, the satisfying faces of stuffed patrons, and not least the long queue of eager yet-to-have-climaxed Malaysians, all clamouring for the latest morsel to arrive that had boldly claimed - in your face - to "melt in your mouth."

With the first store opening just yesterday in prime location @ Berjaya Times Square, we in Malaysia are finally blessed :P

Though avoiding the crowd and potentially one month of free doughnuts by skipping the opening, I made my way there the very next day! Sean popped along, and we went to see (and experience) whether all the fuss and hype of its innate superiority to the J and Apple varieties held any truth.

They have this funky machine known as a 'proof box' where heat and humidity is set and where the doughnuts go on a 20 minute oscillating ride to allow the dough to rise!

They're then dropped into a hot oil bath, cooking both sides before passing through a tantalizingly gooey glazing waterfall! *drool*

The wait justifies everything.

Trekked back to Pavilion to enjoy our gems, toying with the prospect of going into J.Co's for a drink while eating these beauties :P

The cheesecake filling was topped off with cream cheese icing and graham cracker crunch: a beautiful start to this forbidden relationship. My favourite so far :D

Not pretty. But hey, at least they let me get to work.

Fast forward almost 5 months - a winter break, and an entire semester.

Well, there's the good news and the bad news.

Good news is that Finals are over! Overall, it was awesome. Very satisfying end to the sem :P

Just recuperating from the months of stress and lack of sleep!

Bad news is the inevitable onset of the feelings of having no purpose is near.

Gets worse, since I was banking on getting an Internship to make good use of this opportunity, which sad to say did not materialize as of yet. However, not giving up! Will keep looking though, or else seriously the next two months will make me insane.

Lately I realized that I have been having this thing for (re)discovering foods to eat for breakfast, and when i do, it starts a routine - it becomes my jumpstart for the entire week or two, or when the ingredients run out, whichever comes first...

Last week was Pineapple-Banana-Cheese-Banana-Peanut Butter Toast :D

I hated 'Chunky' Peanut Butter when i was younger (had this thing against nuts), but now i really can't do without it!

Today was another round of finals, my fifth, and actually, final round of exams for me in ADTP @ Sunway!

Today just ended with a bout of Psychology and Business Finance, which went pretty well i must say :)

I had only less than 2minutes to run through my entire set of 70 MCQs in Psychology after typically going overboard on the essays, that was stress! It was the prelude to a hectic 45 minutes that I had before my next exam!

I was wondering... "How can i flush out all that Psychology I stuffed in the previous night..."

"Shove in more stuff."

And so, that's what I did for the next half hour.

Which set me up for a couple of minutes of de-stressing with deep breaths when I finally had the paper in front of me. Not good.

"... There are 5 Questions in this Paper. One in Part I, four in Part II." Okay.

*Flip*

Question 1 was totally illegible to my brain. Not good.

"...Answer only four. Part I is COMPULSORY. Choose three from Part II." Not good.

Great to have Rio back marshalling the defence, he and Vidic were immense that night to keep the clean sheet, and help United through. Rooney ran his socks off, his stamina is incredible, i want!... :P

Happy 18th Birthday Me!

This is supposed to be a landmark year. The year, where you hit the age every teenager (and seemingly everyone above 40) wants to be! The year, where you are at your physical peak (if this the peak, how wonderful for me. Thanks big guy -.-); when you are considered an 'adult' - in the legal sense of the word - where everything is not so grown up, and *almost* nothing is 'haram' anymore. For me, that year will be 2009 :)

Enough philosophy. Let's get straight to the birthday dinner that night!

Review: Sheraton Imperial, Kuala Lumpur's Buffet Dinner.

Started off with a salad mix. Apt, nothing wow. But as always, what I need to start off a buffet.

Oysters and lime. Not bad, but i'm not really into seafood, so can't critique on this.

Haha, and no I don't buy into it being an aphrodisiac, so that doesn't help either!

California rolls! Now this, I liked! Yes, it just had the basic ingredients of a Cali roll, but the fish roe-in-mayo was mmmm mmmm. Had all 3 for myself!

Salmon and Tuna sashimi. Was good, but not a big fan of raw fish in general, not since A showed me a picture of this guy under the knife because of maggots in his brain from sushi overload.

Was layered with chocolate, pandan, and this uniquely awesome brown-gooey (i'm afraid i don't know what it was, should've asked! And this was simply what made it so special.. haha). Unique, I liked that.

All in all, a wonderful blend, though a tad sweet, but just how I like dessert.

Glad my "OUT WITH THE CHOCOLATE BANANA SECRET RECIPE CAKE ALREADY" cries were heard.

All in all, this place is recommended. Just don't go there just for the food. The array is not as wide for true foodies to enjoy. So instead, go for the ambience, quiet environment, and (if you're lucky) nice jazz music flowing from the live band the floor below - perfect for a date. At around RM80++, make sure you have a Starwood Hotel Card to get 50% off, or else it wouldn't be as satisfying for you as it was for me!

Yes, I know it is long overdue, but I really need to blog about Sunburst KL '09!

I missed the one last year, well, i blame it on the ticket prices that i can't afford, no matter how long the show may be.. But this year, it was all down to Diyana, so a big big Thank You has to go out to her for taking me :)

Well, as you probably know, Sunburst is an annual 12-hour music festival that was started in '08, showcasing local, Asian, and International acts non-stop! This year there were four stages: Livesounds, and Loud & Clear, the two under-the-tent; and

Sky, and Sun, the two huge outdoor stages

I was surprised at the efficiency and dedication to the time slots, everything progressed simultaneously, one after the other quite well! Like after one act, all we'd have to do was just turn around and head to the next stage because they'd be already raring to go! Awesomeeeee :)

HAPPY BELATED CHINESE NEW YEAR everyone! :)
*Sorry this is way past its due date.

First off, i'd like to give thanks to those people who made the new 'it' word/phrase/annoying word for this season: "Have an Oxpicious New Year!" Uh-huh.

Anyways, every CNY my family gathers some place with my dad's side of the family for a reunion dinner the night before CNY! This time it was at my uncle's place,

and also this time the food was good,

and again, this time much of it was in Chinese!

There were 3 of us this time (the maid doesn't count) instead of the usual 4. Weird, but it didn't really get to me.. Until after there was nothing left to stuff into my mouth to postpone the inevitable missing conversation.

It was especially weird for me this year because my un-Cinafied-banana-of-a-brother was missing. We were yellow on the outside, white on the inside - the "odd-ones-out" who found solace in each other's inability to speak Chinese! :P

But after chowing down, the main event of the night began!
Haha, even my brother participated via Skype.. a process whereby my Dad showed my brother his hand and then played on his behalf. He won more than me though!! Haha, oh well :)

This was just the beginning...

...And it ended even better!

And that was pretty much the flow of my first two days of CNY '09!

I know i know! Where have I BEEN FOR THE PAST 3 MONTHS?!!

Well, in short, i've been busy wrapping up last semester, Fall '08, which went pretty well save for Public Speaking (gah @ BA!); getting into heaps of trouble, didn't really learn from my mistakes initially (although i have now) - remember, ALWAYS tell the truth!; having my bro back home for a month (yay); working at Louis Vuitton (again) for a couple of weeks; and well, its the freaking New Year already!

Most importantly, glad to say that things with A have been mainly on the upside - Officially Complicated has become Officially Amazing! :D

Like I said, its been amazing with her..
But that deserves an entirely different story by itself :P

And besides, I've been motivated to restart this thing, and i will. So there'll be not much sappy re-caps.. and onto the future!

Which makes it more confusing, I know. There used to be a time when two people would just feel it, and that would be that. I thought that time was now, like 21st century all.. lol

There's this Face of Sun-U competition which has been going on in Sunway University College (SYUC) for the past month or so, to look for the cover face of ECHO's magazine for October issue.

Round 2: The 'physical' challenge which i won! Held two eggs on two spoons on the sides for about an hour! Beat that :P

Round 3: Q & A session to test our 'brainy' side.. I got 12/15, okay lahhh!

It culminated in the finalists (one of them being me) making a video on themselves!

Yes, my finals are over!!
To be honest, they turned out to not be so nightmarish, but sort of the first tests i've somewhat twistedly enjoyed?! Call me crazy, but i can't wait for my results :P

And officially, summer is re-starting and my first year of college is over.

Wow, serioussssss shit. No idea if this is :) or :(

And Oh. My. God. It is like just under one more month till a few of my friends, most importantly - Amin, Cheryl, Bel, Ling Kit, Mark, and Zhalikha fly off on a jet plane to Amedika! To top it off, these have been like my best mates - bimbos - 'abangs' - 'kaks' that i am so god damn attached to, it just hurts thinking about the future.

I will miss you guys so fucking badly.

After 16 weeks of break since the New Year, its finally ended!

Just over 48 hours after, its killing me here... the real work has finally begun!

I have begun outlining May, 2008 and here's what I have so far:
